o eBay is one of the largest on-line transaction processing systems in the world and one of the largest web sites in the world. The eBay SWAT team provides mission-critical 24x7 software systems support for the rapid identification and resolution of site issues. The eBay SWAT team is composed of highly experienced software engineers that are able to work across multiple programming languages, large-scale systems, low-level applications, kernels and operating systems.
o Share release management duties on feature rollouts, share on-call responsibilities. Comfortable with carrying an on-call pager for 0.5 week at a time while supporting a 24x7 site.
o Define, design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software applications. Segment and design system layers to support componentised and layered application development, including user interface, business functionality, and database access.
o Work with other engineers, managers, Product Management, QA, and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals
and principles.
o Estimate engineering effort; plan implementation, and rollout system changes.
o Must be able to independently design, code and test major features, as well as work jointly with other team members to deliver complex changes.
o Develop industry and product technical expertise.
o Ability to find and help fix stability/scalability issues in a very time critical environment.
o Good communication skills and the ability to work with other developers optimizing or fixing code.
o Candidate should have good experience developing in C++ on the Win32 environment. Expertise in memory management, exception handling, Oracle SQL, and fault tolerant code design also needed.
o Candidate should also have good experience working with Java and J2EE, would prefer experience with IBM Web Sphere.
o Experience with developing front and backend Search products would be a plus.

Qualifications:
o This job requires innovative solutions and people that enjoy rapidly solving very complex problems.

o 5+ years experience in requirements analysis, design, coding and unit testing of scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant applications in NT and UNIX environments.

o Expertise required in object-oriented design methodology and application development in C++, Java and J2EE, including Servlets, JSP, Java Beans, EJB, JMS, RMI, JDBC, MVC architecture.

o Project experience with IBM Web Sphere or other J2EE application servers required.

o Project experience with Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP and its development environment, also with Microsoft IIS.
o Working knowledge of relational databases (prefer Oracle), ISAPI, HTTP/HTML, XML, XSLT and basic NT/UNIX system administration.
o Proven results oriented person with a delivery focus.
o Education BS, CS or other relevant degree required.
